Activist Leadership
Activist Leadership – a definition
Activist leadership is leadership which supports individuals or groups to undertake intentional efforts, programmes or activities to promote, impede, or bring about social, political, economic, cultural or environmental change. The main components of such leadership include supporting others to understand the root causes of inequality or oppression and related conditions of social injustice; is carried out in direct cooperation with an organised or unorganised collective of people who are themselves subject to these conditions; and seeks, together with the people or group in question, to formulate strategies for transforming these conditions and to amass the power necessary to implement these strategies and bring about the desired changes.
